Why we're afraid of it, and why we shouldn't be. by educating people that commitment is the very essence of human relationships. Back during the days of the Cold War, Billy Graham received this letter from a communist: We communists have a high casualty rate. We are the ones who get shot and hung and ridiculed and fired from our jobs and in every other way made as uncomfortable as possible.
A certain percentage of us get killed or imprisoned. We live in virtual poverty. We turn back to the party every penny we make above what is absolutely necessary to keep us alive. We communists do not have the time or the money for many movies or concerts or T-bone steaks or decent homes or new cars.
Our lives are dominated by one great, overshadowing factor: We have a philosophy of life which no amount of money could buy. We have a cause to fight for, a definite purpose in life. We subordinate our petty personal selves into a great movement of humanity; and if our personal lives seem hard or our egos appear to suffer through subordination to the party, then we are adequately compensated by the thought that each of us, in his small way, is contributing to something new and true and better for mankind.
There is one thing in which I am dead earnest about, and that is the communist cause. It is my life, my business, my religion, my hobby, my sweetheart, my wife, my mistress, my bread and meat.
All of the above can be done by a person and he still not be converted because their relationship with God will not have been changed. A complete change of life is essential in conversion. It is out of harmony with word of God for a person to obey the gospel and then live essentially the same type of life they lived before.
If Christianity can't make you a better person, can't elevate you and lift you to a higher moral standard, a higher concept of your goal and purpose in life, and a greater usefulness to society and the God who created you, then it isn't worth you while.
Not everyone who is convicted of sin and has been converted as evidenced by obedience to the gospel is going to heaven. Bible plainly tells us we can fall away - 1 Cor Biblical examples of those who did fall away.
Seven Ways to Overcome Fear of Commitment
